Are you living a life of endless excuses or are you taking full responsibility?

A lot of business owners think that scaling CEOs either make fewer excuses or have fully quit making excuses.

I tell you what, in my over 20 years of coaching, working with executives, and helping businesses scale, I witnessed otherwise.

Still, each of us has done it, in one way or the other, in every aspect of our lives.

Excuses don’t get fewer as you go up the growth ladder. In fact, it gets harder to stay away from them.

Actually, I can even argue that most CEOs “on top” can be incredibly more creative when coming up with excuses.

Before this happens to you, let’s go over some things that you need to practice if you want to stop with the excuses.

*Stay realistic.

Keep your goals realistic and attainable. If your goal is too big, chunk them down into smaller goals.

It feels overwhelming to migrate all your systems, processes, and documents into one tool. But it feels more doable to collect all your documents today, map out your processes tomorrow, and find an efficient tool the day after tomorrow. Or better yet, hire someone to do it for you.

*Repeat after me: it’s not anyone else’s fault.

It’s no one’s fault that things in the business are not working the way you need them to.

Let me be real here. It’s your fault and the result of your own behavior. Taking responsibility and finding solutions (instead of dwelling on your own mistakes) is what makes a great leader.

*Do not let “later” become “never.”

The sooner you realize that you have the potential to make things right, the better it will turn out for you. So find solutions now. Not later. Not ever.

Remember: Excuses only exist to keep you away from real growth. So why use them?

Here’s to never using excuses!
